Awesome Catch On A Lake In Canada : 56" - 55lbs.
This is a new record Northern Pike in Canada. He caught it on Rainy Lake . Check this thing out. The man (in the photos below), was fishing and caught a 36" Pike, as he was reeling it in, a 56" Pike tried to eat it !!!!!
He landed them both in the same net. The last picture is unbelievable.

OUTDOORS: Treat yourself to great gear
December 27, 2007
OK, the season of forced good cheer is almost behind us. And if you're an outdoors type, you may have collected some useless gifts that you can take back to a store and trade in for something you really could use.
Even better, someone might have had sense enough to give you a gift certificate or cash, which may be a bit crass but spends better than good will, at least in the stores I patronize. So here are a few items to consider that have added enormous enjoyment to my outdoors activities.

• Bert's Custom Tackle trolling gear: This was the pet project of my late and greatly missed pal, Bert Cummings, who sold his ideas and line of rod-mounting tracks, rod holders and other trolling gear to Tecla Co. in Waterford shortly before his untimely death in 2005.

to learn how to spot tracks

Walking through a museum store the other day, I saw a book about animal tracks that was written for kids. It reminded me that winter is a great time to take your kids or grandkids out with a book like that and see what kind of tracks you can find in your neighborhood or a local park.
Friends who have done this have been surprised when they were able to identify the tracks of skunks, weasels, foxes, pheasants, raccoons, porcupines and other wild critters that they never dreamed lived right in town.

A few years ago, a friend who took his two daughters out to search for tracks called with great excitement. They had come across the tracks of a large cat on a local golf course. They were way too big to be a domestic cat and too small to be a cougar, so they were thrilled to realize that a bobcat was living within a few hundred feed of their home.
Deep snow is not good for track identification. Ideally, you want to get out after a minor fall has left a nice dusting on the trails where you can walk as easily as the animals.
